Biography

Well, I am an academic observing the world and making my own judgements about what I see. This might seem a bit odd as everyone should be doing this but I very often find myself pretty lonely in this seemingly universal behaviour.

I am originally from Slovenia, a tiny little country that was born on the ruins of Yugoslavia. As a graduate in Civil Engineering from the University of Maribor I managed to get a traineeship in Dundee, Scotland where a few years latter I completed my PhD under the supervision of Prof Malcolm Horner, a great man, wonderful mentor and my dear friend. Because of the industrial funding from one of the Slovenian construction companies I went back to Slovenia afterwards. I worked in the company for some time but couldn’t really stand our dictatorial ex-army major CEO and soon moved to the University of Maribor where I took a post of Research and Teaching Assistant in the Centre for Information Technology in Construction. I stayed there for a year and didn’t really like the laidback culture and moved back to Scotland in 2003 where I worked as a Teaching Fellow and Regional Manager for Constructing Excellence and later Scottish Construction Forum. I stayed there until October 2006 when I received lectureship offers from Dundee and Reading at the same time! As one of the foremost centres of construction-related research Reading seemed a really marvellous choice and I’ve never regretted my choice. It offers by far the most stimulating environment I’ve ever been in touch with. My role in Reading? I am currently a lecturer, School Director of Enterprise, Director of Postgraduate Courses and Director of a prestigious MSc in Project Management but you can read more about my daily chaos by following my blog.
